Taking charge of yourself begins with putting away some of the very old notions and beliefs that have imprisoned us for as long as we can remember, these beliefs that have somewhat become who we are - for we become and are a product of our consciousness and beliefs. Easier said than done you are thinking.
Its
unfortunately true that if You are to Take Charge of who you are and
your environment – you need to let go of some of the more common beliefs that hinder
growth and change, the ones that sound like this for example:
“being intelligence
is your ability to solve very complex problems, your ability to read write and compute at
certain levels or to solve abstract and complex problems quickly”
That
is a true myth as this vision of intelligence assumes that the more educated
and book worm you are, the more superior you are. This kind of unrealistic and
false measure has crippled our society, encouraging a kind of intellectual snobbery
that has brought with it demoralising results.
We
have come to believe that someone with more merit badges, who is a whiz at some
form of scholastic discipline (math, science, physics, a fast reader, or worse
still someone loaded with money), is “intelligent”.
The
truth here is that mental hospitals are clogged with patients with all the
properly lettered credentials – as well as others. A true barometer of intelligence however I believe, is
an effective full happy and enjoyable life that is lived each day and yes - each present moment of every
day.
If
you are happy and can live each moment of each day for everything that is it worth,
then you are an intelligent person.
How
many of us though, truly embrace each day as a gift?
How many understand that
spending too much time wallowing in pain, guilt, worry and stress immobilizes
us and our ability to get a positive result – that is destroys our ability to be
the best individuals that we were created to become? Think of this, how many of us, have
by worrying more than the rest, truly gotten a different result or perspective
to the problem we were stressing over?
Problem
solving is a useful aide to your happiness. Once you get to the place where you knaow that given your inability to resolve a
particular concern, you can however still choose happiness, or at the least refuse to
choose unhappiness - THEN YOU ARE AN INTELLIGENT PERSON.
